# Overview

The API behind the Terra CLI and the MCP server.

The admin API manages your Terra account: environments, API keys, providers, destinations, webhook events, team, and billing. It does not serve your users' health data. That is the [Unified API](/reference/health-and-fitness-api/readme.md), which uses your environment's API key.

{% hint style="info" %}
The easiest way to use the admin API is through the [Terra CLI](https://docs.tryterra.co/developer-tools/terra-cli/terra-cli) or the [MCP server](https://docs.tryterra.co/developer-tools/mcp-server). Both are built on it and add input validation, previews, and confirmation for risky changes.

## Access

Every request carries a [personal access token](/reference/admin-api/personal-access-tokens.md). You get one by signing in to the CLI or connecting an MCP client. Its [scopes](/reference/admin-api/scopes.md) decide what it can do.
