# Why doesn't Garmin calorie series match total\_burned\_calories?

The calorie time series tracks **active burn only**, while `total_burned_calories` is the whole-day figure including BMR (resting calories). The series never climbs to the total; that gap is expected.

* The daily summary fields (`net_activity_calories`, `BMR_calories`, `total_burned_calories`) are the authoritative end-of-day numbers.
* For a single all-in figure, **use `total_burned_calories`**.

The series and the summary come from different provider reports and may not match to the exact calorie, and this can differ across providers.
