# Can I default Garmin historical data permission on?

Historical data permission is **off by default for Garmin connections and cannot be changed**. This is intentional on Garmin's side, to nudge users towards privacy.

It is your responsibility to **communicate the need to enable historical data permissions** to the user during the [connection flow](https://docs.tryterra.co/health-and-fitness-api/user-authentication/authentication-flow).
