Markdown versions of documentation pages are available by appending `.md` to page URLs; this page is available as [Markdown](https://docs.tryterra.co/faq/help-topics/data-api-sdk/account-config-environments-and-going-live/scopes-permissions-config.md).

# Why does the API return a no-permissions error for a data type?

The error **`You do not have permissions for this data category`** usually means that data type is disabled in your dashboard configuration.

**Open the data types / scopes settings above your configured Sources and enable the categories you want.** Requests then succeed for new and existing users. See [customising data types](https://docs.tryterra.co/health-and-fitness-api/integration-setup/customising-data-types).

Separately, each provider integration has a fixed set of required OAuth scopes (mostly identity and offline-access), pre-selected in the provider's consent UI. If an end user deselects them, the connection fails with missing-scope errors. Surface a notice asking users to leave all permission boxes ticked during authorisation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.tryterra.co/faq/help-topics/data-api-sdk/account-config-environments-and-going-live/scopes-permissions-config.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
