# How do I set up my Strava credentials?

Strava is a **bring-your-own-credentials source**, so a "credentials required" message is expected. There is no Terra-side approval step, and no custom domain/DNS (unlike WHOOP).

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
On Strava's API settings page, create an application.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Set the **Authorization Callback Domain** to exactly Terra's bare API host, with no paths or slashes: `api.tryterra.co` for v2 dev\_ids, or `access.tryterra.co` for v3.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Save, then in the Terra dashboard under [API > Connections](https://github.com/tryterra/api-faqs/blob/main/dashboard/connections/README.md) (Add more / Connections > Strava > Edit) paste the Client ID and Client Secret.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Verify the Client ID matches exactly (watch for stray characters).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Users can then connect through the normal [auth flow](https://docs.tryterra.co/health-and-fitness-api/user-authentication).

Note that new Strava apps start with a low connected-athlete cap (as low as one) plus per-app rate limits, so request an increase from Strava for production.
