# Do I need a WHOOP device to create a developer account?

**Creating a** [**WHOOP**](https://docs.tryterra.co/health-and-fitness-api/whoop) **developer account now requires an active WHOOP device and membership.** This is a WHOOP-side requirement with no Terra workaround.

In production, treat WHOOP as a connect-if-you-already-have-it provider.
